Extra Credit (3.5)

Students studying any category of math need a variety of tools to help them complete their assignments and learn the practice. As a math student, I often use a pink pearl bar eraser, Incompetch’s free online graph paper, 24 Game app, and ruler with a hole puncher. These tools will help you succeed.

The Pink Pearl Bar Eraser
  • This eraser is the best eraser for students of all ages. The Pink Pearl is big enough to erase a lot at one time; but, also has the ability to erase in small spaces. The eraser erases with little effort, making it easy for a student to fix his or her mistakes.
  • A student learns that mistakes will happen in math; but, it is important for him or her to go back and fix the mistake. Students learn the importance of accuracy in math.
  • This is a timeless tool for math students. It is always important to remind anyone doing math that he or she should check for accuracy.
  • I recommend students should start using the Pearl Pink at a young age- as soon as they begin schooling. This eraser works and a student won't stress from trying to erase perfectly because this eraser works with little effort. Also, the size is appealing to students of all ages.
 Incompetch’s free online graph paper

  • This site allows free printing of different sizes of graphing. One simply chooses the style of graph paper they wish to print and choose how many copies they want. This is convenient and can be cost efficient.
  • Graphing can only properly be done when using graph paper. This convenient format of paper will help a student feel more inclined to use it. He or she will see how important the grid is to  graphing.
  • This is a timeless tool for math students. Anyone graphing is always going to need graph paper.
  • I recommend this product, especially to college students. College student most likely won't need an entire pack of graph paper. Might as well use up those printing bucks!
24 Game App

  • This app makes it easier for elementary students to play this classic math game. Students must figure out how to get to 24 by adding,  subtracting, dividing,  or multiplying the 4 numbers. The goal is to get to 24 as soon as possible.
  • This helps students sharpen the arithmetic skills. This is a necessity for upper-level math classes.
  • This app could be played by anyone (even my arithmetic skills need some work). I think this app is best for upper elementary school aged children so that they can practice their skills in a "hip" way.
  • I recommend this app! Students should use it in a group environment to make it even more exciting.
Hole Puncher Ruler
  • This is the perfect two in one item for a math student. Not only are students given a rule, they also have a hole punch to get their worksheets into their binders and stay organized. The ruler latches into their binders; so, they will never forget it for class.
  • Students will learn the importance of organization and practicality.
  • I think this is best for middle school and high school students. It is important students of this age to begin to learn the importance of organization.
  • I absolutely recommend this item but encourage students to not punch more than one sheet of paper at a time--- it will not work with a whole packet of papers.

  3. taylor,

really creative post and resources! i like what you said about the eraser and students understanding that it's ok to make mistakes! <3 your synopses are good and i like that you included an app. the "skills needed" section was lacking a little bit but overall, good job.
