- On graph. As the secant lines get closer together, the ARC approaches the instantaneous rate of change. In terms on my experiment, as the secant lines near (2000,18), the calculated slope is closer to the instantaneous rate of change in year 2000.

- Answer is -1. In 2000, the instantaneous rate of change for the prevalence if HIV in females 15-226 in Botswana was -1%.
- The slope of the secant lines was getting more and more precise. They continuously neared 1. They were approaching the slope value of the tangent line.The tangent line touches the line drawn to define the slope of that point on the curve.
I believe this is a very nice experiment, having such a serious topic, demonstrating how HIV is increasing as the years go by and how it laters go back down. The graphs are very well done and the calculations are very clear to understand. Good job!

ReplyDeletei really liked the topic that you chose. it is so relevant, as the widespread diseases in africa are always an issue of concern. you did a nice job with your table and graphs and your information is organized nicely.
i wanted to point out, though, that in the beginning of your post you state that you will be investigating the rate of change in 2009, but your experiment shows data for 2000. just be sure to be consistent, so that your question matches your experiment. some additional things would be also to remember to include units, and maybe include an explanation of what the negative value means in terms on your experiment and in terms of the IRC.
