7th - 12th Grade

Khan Academy
Khan Academy is a website created by Salman Khan and features thousands of tutorial style videos. It started as a mathematical website but you can now find videos on many other subjects. The website is free and contains videos for all different educational levels.
Skills needed:

  • Basic knowledge on how to navigate YouTube
  • Elementary knowledge of math
  • Time to commit to watching 10-25 minute videos
I think the main age group that Khan Academy attracts is anywhere from 5th grade to college students. I would recommend this to any student who is not understanding the basic levels of any subject. I think Khan Academy can provide the student with the basic knowledge so when the student is in the classroom, they can apply what they've learned to however their teacher is choosing to teach the subject.

SOS Mathematics
SOS Math is an easy website to use for high school and college students. It features easy explanations on math subjects starting with Algebra and beyond.
Skills needed:

  • Navigate through a very busy and outdated website (could be easy to accidentally click on spam)
  • Have a basic understanding of the subject being studied
  • Be able to read and work a computer
  • Interpret wordy explanations
SOS Mathematics is definitely for 7th grade and up since it begins with Algebra. I would recommend this website to any high school student struggling with the basic concepts of their math course, but I don't think it would be as helpful as websites like Khan Academy.

Ted-Ed
Ted-Ed is very similar to Khan Academy in the sense that it provides video lessons on multiple subjects other than mathematics. It even has some subjects that Khan Academy doesn't include. Some may recognize the name from the famous TED Talks, which may add to the popularity of Ted-Ed.
Skills needed:

  • Understanding of the internet and how to work a computer
  • At least know Algebra
I would recommend Ted-Ed for any student who is at least in Algebra, the website features tutorials on Algebra, Geometry, Probability, Analysis, etc. so any level below that may not find it useful.

Video Math Tutor
This is another video tutorial website and it divides the videos by subjects (Algebra, Geometry, etc.). It also includes calculator tips, study tips, and tips for teachers.
Skills needed:

  • Understanding of the internet (has advertisements and some may be spam)
  • Basic knowledge of Algebra and Geometry
The website does not include calculus so it would only be helpful to some high school students but still fits the 7-12th grade area. It also provides a lot of tips for teachers which the others didn't inlcude.

  1. Wow, it seems like both of us reviewed almost the same websites, which also means that those websites are really useful

  2. Hi Stacy,
As Amy said, all of these math platforms are really useful. I have tried some of them like Khan Academy (which I also described in my post) and Ted-ED. I just looked at the other two and I also find them very helpful.
